Simply Yummy

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu

I am always on the look out for tasty new dishes that don’t take much time. Otherwise it’s the “same-old-same-old” monotonous routine. While at a sister’s house recently, I found this interesting recipe in a magazine – a slight twist on an old favourite. Looked easy and delicious so I thought I might attempt it. Let me know if you decide to try it.

Cheesy Gnocchi Bolognaise

Ingredients (serves 6)

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 brown onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 750g lean beef mince
  • 600ml bottle Italian tomato pasta sauce
  • 625g packet fresh gnocchi
  • 150g Tasmanian Heritage St Claire Swiss-style cheese, grated

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C. Heat oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic. Cook for 5 minutes or until soft. Increase heat to medium-high. Add mince. Cook, stirring with a wooden spoon to break up mince, for 5 minutes or until browned.
  2. Add pasta sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes or until sauce thickens.
  3. Meanwhile, cook gnocchi in a saucepan of boiling, salted water for 3 minutes or until partially cooked (see note). Drain. Spoon bolognaise into a lightly-greased, 6cm deep, 24cm x 30cm (base) baking dish. Top with gnocchi. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until cheese is melted and sauce bubbling at edges.

Notes & tips

  • Baking will complete the cooking.
  • Serve with salad.

  1. Hi Barakaedu,

This is really delicious. I love your posts. Please don’t give up on your blog. I’d love to get more recipies. I think you’ve really got something going here and it could go a long way, but you need to post something at least once a week. I’ll be back to see what you’re writing on next.

So many bloggers give up when they don’t get immediate response, but on the internet you’ve got to give people time to find you and the more great information you have on your blog, the higher Google will rate it.

  2. Hi Wendy,

My children didn’t enjoy this as much as I had hoped. They love pasta and especially lasagne, but not squishy potato balls.

Thank you for your warm encouragement. I was quite suprised that you found me as I wanted to have a few more posts up before I had visitors.

    Have a great day!

  3. I found your blog because Google has a Google Alert function where you can tell them what you’re interested in and they’ll send you an email every day to tell you if anything new has been posted on blogs or in the news on the topic you’re interested in. This is how I update my Education News section of my blog every day. They picked up your article in one of the Google Alert emails they sent me.

Isn’t the internet amazing. You think that you won’t be found for ages, but the little spiders crawling through the internet will find you quite quickly. It may help you if you’re interested in something specific. Just type ‘Google Alerts in the search box and it’s quite easy to set up

    Good luck with your blog

    Wendy
